MORAVIAN SUGAR CAKE | |
1 c. mashed potatoes 3/4 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt 2 eggs 4 c. flour 1 cake Fleischmann's yeast in 1 c. water that potatoes have been cooked in 1 tsp. sugar (added to yeast & water) Preheat oven to 375 to 400 degrees. Cream sugar, lard and salt; add eggs, then mashed potatoes. Add yeast and stir in all the flour until the dough is stiff enough. Let rise overnight. Next morning work dough and spread on biscuit pan to rise again. Put butter, brown sugar and cinnamon on top. Bake on cookie sheet 15 to 20 minutes. SAUCE FOR TOPPING: 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1 1/4 lb. brown sugar 1/2 lb. butter 1 c. milk Bring this to a boil, put on sugar cake while hot. |
