LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe!! I've never made beef stew before, so while I was at the store i looked online to find an easy recipe so I could get all the ingredients!! Man-o-man, am I glad I found this! Everyone enjoyed it (even my husband who is PICKY to say the least lol). I did not see the McCormicks beef stew seasoning packet, so I used the Lipton Onion Soup Mix Beefy Onion flavor packet instead, and followed everything else to the "T". I also used two of those packets because I had a lot of meat!! AWESOME recipe!! Thank you!! I will be using it again!

Has anyone ever tried this recipe using Elk Meat. My husband was giving several lbs of Elk Meat steaks and I thought stewing it would be good. Any ideas out there?

An alternative to the recipe above is one referred to as Crock Pot beef stew (2). There is no need to brown the chuck cubes and the 12 hr (low) cook time is perfect over-night or all day for lunch thermos or dinner use. I add carrots, but otherwise follow the recipe pretty closely. It came with my original crockpot many years (and pots) ago. Recently have been stirring in a half cup of red wine (whatever). More of a Bourgonesque bowl.

This beef stew recipe is as easy as ABC. Brown stew beef 2 pounds with 2 tsp. flour. Put in crock pot along with 3 tsp. minced garlic and one onion. Cook in crock pot on high for 45 minutes then add 5 potatoes in small bite size pieces along with 1 bag frozen vegetables, 1 can beef broth and 1 beef bouillon cube and one cup of water with 1 tsp. kountry kitchen. Perfect in about 3 hours.

You can cut down on sodium by cutting back on bouillon by adding a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce - adds flavor without as much sodium.

You can buy stew meat already cut up. Season with season salt, garlic & onion powder, and pepper. Add a green pepper, onion, and celery with fresh meat and then add can of beef broth mixed wit water, enough to cover meat and veggies. Let simmer on low for 5-6 hours. Add fresh potatoes and carrots. Turn up eye to mid-med. Add can of green beans, Lima beans. Cook for 45 min. Add corn and peas. Cook for 20 min. Add a small can of tomato past, and 2 med can of tomato sauce. Let cook for additional 30 min. While cooking, mix up some cornbread and serve. Enjoy

The recipe can be altered according to taste and preference, the measures of seasoning do not have to be precise... A packet of Lipton recipe soup mix or McCormick's beef stew seasoning can taste just fine in 2 lbs of meat or 7 lbs of meat depending on preference as well as other liquids an ingredients added to the stew... get a grip!

This is a great recipe, I also add a little liquid smoke to mine and it is great, gramps always has the best ideas. If you use this idea, remember not to add too much, it is very strong.
