BEEF STEW 
1 1/2 lb. beef cubes
8-10 med. potatoes, pared and quartered
2 med. onions, cut up fine
6-8 med. carrots, diced 1 1/2-inches thick
Salt and pepper
1 1/2 tbsp. flour

In hot pot brown beef cubes in about 1 tablespoon of fat. Add the flour after cubes are browned and stir around (this thickens the stew). Pour in about 4 cups of water; add onion, salt and pepper. Let cook about 1 hour or until meat is tender.

Then add carrots; cook about 15 minutes more and add potatoes. More water will need to added as stew cooks. Cook until potatoes are done. You may have to add more salt and pepper after vegetables are added.
