CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1/2 c. (each) Crisco, butter
1 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix together.

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt

Sift together and blend in to mixture.

8 to 10 drops red food coloring

Divide dough in half and blend coloring in one of the halves. Roll 1 teaspoon dough (of each color) into a 4 inch strip; place side by side and twist together. Place on cookie sheet forming into a cane. Bake until slightly browned (8 to 9 minutes) in 375 degree oven. Remove from sheet to wire rack with a spatula, then sprinkle with finely crushed peppermint candy and sugar (same amounts of each).
