2 c. flour 2 c. sugar 2 sticks butter 2 tbsp. cocoa 1/2 pkg. German chocolate 1 c. water 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda 2 eggs Mix soda with buttermilk, set aside. Sift flour and sugar together in large bowl. Place butter, chocolate, and water in a saucepan; bring to boil and pour over flour and sugar mixture, mixing well. Add buttermilk and soda mixture and eggs. Mix well and pour into a well greased and floured 16 x 11 inch pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until straw inserted comes out clean. Begin to cook icing 5 minutes before cake is done. Pour over cake while it is still warm. ICING: 1 stick butter 1/2 pkg. German's chocolate 1 c. chopped nuts 1 box powdered sugar 2 tbsp. cocoa 6 tbsp. milk 1 tsp. vanilla In a saucepan, put butter, milk, and cocoa, heat until butter is melted, stirring constantly. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer until smooth. Add chopped nuts. Stir, if too stiff, add more milk. Let cool 5 minutes and spread on cake while still warm. |
