Combine - 1 package dates, sliced, 1 cup raisins, 2/3 cup butter, 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup dark molasses, and 1 1/2 cups hot water in a saucepan, boil gently for 3 minutes. Cool.

Beat in - 2 eggs.

Add - 1 jar fruits and peels and 1 cup chopped nuts. Sift together - 3 cups sifted four, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt.

Add gradually to fruit mixture, beating well after each addition. Pour into round tube pan or 2 loaf pans, greased and line bottoms with wax paper. Bake at 275 degrees for about 2 hours for the tube pan and 1 1/2 hours for loaf pans.
