BASIC WHITE SAUCE
2 tbsp. butter, sliced
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash ground white or black pepper
1 c. milk

In 1 quart microwave safe dish, microwave butter at high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, or until melted. With wire whisk, blend in cornstarch, salt and pepper. Gradually blend in milk. Microwave on High 4-5 minutes, stirring frequently or until sauce becomes thickened and smooth. Season to taste with dried tarragon leaves, dry ground mustard, dried dill weed or other herbs and spices. Makes 1 cup sauce.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
