BROWN SUGAR POUND CAKE 
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
2 sticks butter
1 box light brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
5 eggs
3 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
1/8 tsp. black walnut flavoring
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Cream shortening and butter with sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.

Sift dry ingredients together and add, alternating with milk. Stir in flavorings.

Bake in a tube pan at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

CARAMEL ICING:

1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. white milk
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1 c. chopped pecans toasted in butter

Place sugars, butter and milk in pan and bring to a hard boil. Boil 2 minutes; remove from heat and place in cold water for 5 minutes. Add vanilla and beat. Add nuts when ready to ice cake.
