2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. water
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon, if desired
3 tbsp. cocoa

Sift flour. Measure, resift with sugar and salt. In a saucepan put butter and shortening, water and cocoa. Bring to a boil and pour over flour and sugar mixture.

In another bowl pour eggs, soda, buttermilk and vanilla. Add to above mixture and mix well. Bake in greased and floured shallow pan, 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inches for 20 minutes at 350 degrees or bake in 9 x 13 x 2 inch at 375 degrees until done to the touch.

Just before cake is done bring to a boil in saucepan 1 stick butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa and 6 tablespoons milk. Add to this 1 box confectioners' sugar and stir. Fold in 1/2 to 1 cup chopped pecans and pour over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. May serve hot or cold.
