BLACK WALNUT DATE CAKE 
1 pkg. dates, covered
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. nuts, cut
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda, mix with flour

Cream butter and sugar. Add the egg. Sift flour and baking soda and add to cream mixture. Add the water with dates and nuts. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Serve with whip cream.
