BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
3 c. flour, sifted
4 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time, blend in well after each. mix soda with hot water, then add extracts. Pour into greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until done.
