WALNUT PUMPKIN TORTE 
1/2 c. walnuts
1 c. sifted all purpose flour
1/4 c. brown sugar
3 oz. pkg. cream cheese
1 (1 lb.) can pumpkin or squash
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. hot water
1/3 c. butter
1 lg. or 2 med. eggs

Chop walnuts medium fine. Combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add walnuts, press firmly in an even layer over bottom of 6 x 10 inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes until lightly browned. Soften cream cheese. Beat in egg. Add pumpkin, condensed milk, spice and salt. Beat until smooth. Stir in hot water. Pour into crust and return to oven. Bake 50 minutes longer or until filling is barely set in center. Cool before cutting.
