MADELYN'S CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2/3 c. butter
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 squares baking chocolate, melted & cooled
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. ice water

Beat together butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla until very fluffy, about 5 minutes with mixer. Add chocolate.

Sift together the flour, soda and salt and add alternately with ice water.

Pour into two oiled and floured layer pans or a loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes for layers, longer for loaf. When cool, frost any way you like. But it's good enough without frosting.
