OLD FASHIONED CORN BREAD 
1 c. all purpose flour
3/4 tsp. arm and hammer soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. corn meal
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
3 tbsp. shortening (melted)

Sift then measure the flour. Sift again with baking soda, salt and cornmeal. Combine well beaten eggs, buttermilk and melted shortening. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients, stirring only until smooth. Turn into a well greased pan. Bake in 8x8 pan at 425 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
