GRANDMA BETTY'S MOLASSES COOKIES | |
1 c. molasses 2 c. white sugar 1 c. sour milk & put in 4 tsp. baking soda 1 c. shortening (Grandma used lard) 3 eggs Pinch of salt 1 tsp. vanilla Add enough flour to mix soft. Chill dough several hours. Roll out on floured board, cut with round cookie cutter and place on cookie sheet. Bake in oven at 375 to 400 degrees. Do not over bake, cookies are chewier if not baked so hard. Remove from baking pan and put on cookie rack to cool. These are good frosted with a lemon glaze prepared from powdered sugar and lemon juice. Mix to spreading consistency and frost cookies. |
