REFRIED BEANS 
1 lb. dried pinto beans
6 c. water
1 or 2 onions, diced (optional)
1/2 c. bacon drippings
butter, butter or lard
Salt
Garlic salt

Thoroughly wash and drain beans; soak in water overnight. Do not drain. If water is soaked up add enough to cover beans, add onions, bring to a boil. Simmer until beans are very tender (about 3 hours). Drain most of the water and mash beans. Add bacon drippings, salt and garlic salt to taste. Continue cooking stirring frequently until the fat is absorbed. Serve hot or reheat later.
