BUTTER CREME TORTE 
2 c. crushed vanilla wafers
1/2 lb. butter
2 c. powdered sugar
4 eggs
1/2 c. pecans, chopped
1/2 c. maraschino cherries, chopped
1/2 pt. whipping cream

Spread 1 cup of crushed vanilla wafers on bottom of 9" square pan. Cream butter and add the sifted powdered sugar. Add the eggs, 1 at a time and cream very well. Stir in pecans. Spread this mixture over the crushed wafers. Then sprinkle 3/4 cup crushed vanilla wafers over egg mixture already in pan. Beat 1 cup whipping cream until thick. Fold in chopped cherries (at Christmas, half red and half green can be used). Spread over wafers in pan. Sprinkle the last 1/4 cup crushed wafers over whipped cream cherry mixture. Chill at least 12 hours. A dab of additional whipped cream and a cherry half can be placed on each square before serving.
