FAMILY GINGERBREAD 
1/2 c. butter & lard mixed
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. hot water

In electric mixer, cream shortening and sugar; add beaten egg and molasses. Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add hot water and beat until smooth. Bake in a shallow pan 13"x9"x2" at 350 degrees for about 40 to 45 minutes. Yield: 15 servings.
