APPLE PIE BARS | |
2 1/2 c. flour, sifted 1 c. shortening 1 1/2 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt Enough milk to an egg yolk to make 1/2 cup 4-5 c. sliced baking apples 1 c. sugar Crushed cereal flakes 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 egg whites, beaten Blend first 4 ingredients as for a pie crust. Add milk and egg mixture. (If too dry add a little more milk.) Divide in half. Roll or separate 1/2 of dough on 10"x15" (jelly roll pan or cookie sheet) pan. Cover bottom crust with crushed corn flakes or any similar dry cereal, just enough to cover crust. Then layer with at least 4 cups chopped or sliced apples. Sprinkle 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon over apples. Roll second half of dough and place over apples. Beat 2 egg whites until stiff; spread over top crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until apples are done and crust golden brown. |
