MAPLE SYRUP SHORTCAKE, MOTHER'S 
1 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
1/3 c. milk plus 2 tbsp.
1/4 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 c. maple syrup

Bring syrup to a boil and pour into shallow baking dish. Sift flour, salt, baking powder, add shortening blending with a fork. Add combined egg and milk. Drop batter by tablespoon onto boiling maple syrup. Bake 350 degree for 25-30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
