AUSTRIAN STYLE SAUERKRAUT & PORK 
6 pork steaks or chops
1 1/2 c. chopped onions
4 slices bacon, chopped into 1" pieces
2 c. tart apples, peeled & chopped
1/2 tsp. cumin
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 lbs. sauerkraut
3/4 c. white wine
1/2 c. water

Apple juice can be substituted for wine.

Brown pork chops. Set aside. Saute onions with bacon. Add apples and cook 5 minutes, stirring. Add cumin, black pepper and rinsed sauerkraut. Stir in white wine and water. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Bury the meat in the kraut in an oven pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Add water if needed.
