SURPRISE MERINGUES | |
6 egg whites 1/8 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. vanilla (or mint or peppermint) 2 c. sugar 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips 1/4 c. walnuts, chopped (if desired) Coloring Beat egg whites, salt, cream of tartar and flavoring until soft peaks form. Add sugar gradually, heating until peaks are stiff. Fold in chocolate pieces and nuts. Cover cookie sheet with plain paper. Drop mixture on by rounded teaspoons. Bake in oven which has been preheated to 400 degrees. Turn off oven and leave cookies in overnight or four hours. Yield: 100. |
