Excellent recipe! As others suggested it needed more water, needed only 1/2 cup of salt and used my KitchenAid to mix it all. I did not experiment with any scent because I wanted to discourage little kids from putting it in their mouth! (as it is they like the salt)

If you add warm water the consistency is much smoother.

This is amazing!!! I have tried all sorts of playdough recipies and they all end up being sticky:( you try to add more flour and it turns into mash potato but this recipe is perfect it does stick to you even if you plung your fingers in!!! Thanks a million!!!

I use this recipe for my classroom all the time. We have great fun. It lasts a long time in a ziploc bag as well.

Just whipped up a batch for a Dr.Seuss party. Added a bit of mint extract to the green and it smells fab! Also used an extra half cup of water. Will do more soon!

re: green food coloring and mint... i use chlorophyll mint instead of green food coloring in baking and frostings.

also use it to color Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap (peppermint, of course).. we use as hand soap(bathrooms) and dish soap (kitchen)... just add ONE drop to the golden liquid ... beautiful green (non-toxic) liquid soap!

one little bottle of chlorophyll is so concentrated, i bet it lasts me the rest of my life!

i'd definitely use it in this play dough recipe... with beet powder for red... turmeric powder for yellow... to mix a rainbow of non-toxic colors for fun!

thanks sooo much for this recipe... and all the adjustments people have made before i found it! thanks! -- S :D

I LOVE this playdough recipe. Easy, natural and fun. I added two cups of water and found it was too much to the 1 cup of flour, so I had to add more flour. Also, I tried it in the bread machine but then switched to my mixer with the dough attachment and it was better. Have fun!!

Warm water is best for a smooth consistency. I didn't have any food coloring, but I mixed in a few teaspoons of some old non-toxic fingerpaints I had and added a bit more flour. The result was terrific, my preschool daughter loves it!
