2 tbsp. cooking oil 1/2 clove garlic, minced 1/2 env. (1/4 c.) onion soup mix 1 c. water 1 (8 oz.) can (1 c.) tomato sauce 1 tsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. dried oregano, crushed 1 lb. ground beef 1/2 tsp. salt Dash pepper 1/3 c. fine dry bread crumbs 1/2 c. milk 2 tbsp. cooking oil 8 frankfurter buns, split & toasted Heat 2 tablespoons oil and garlic. Stir in soup mix, water, tomato sauce, sugar and oregano. Gently boil, uncovered 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until slightly thickened. Combine meat, salt, pepper, bread crumbs and milk. Shape into 24 small balls and brown in remaining 2 tablespoons oil. Add to sauce, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Arrange 3 meatballs on bottom half of each frankfurter bun. Spoon a little sauce and cover with bun top. Makes 8. |
