JAM CAKE 
4 eggs
2 c. white sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. blackberry jam or preserves with seed

Beat eggs, add milk with soda, shortening, sugar and vanilla. Sift spices and cocoa with flour. Sift into mixture and mix well. Add jam. Bake in greased 9 x 13 inch pan lined with brown paper at 325 degrees. Cool and ice with caramel icing.
