BANANA PUDDING 
5 eggs (save 3 egg whites for meringue)
2 c. sugar
4 tbsp. flour
4 c. milk
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1 box vanilla wafers
4 lg. bananas

MERINGUE:

3 egg whites
6 tbsp. sugar
Dash of cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla

CUSTARD: Beat 4 eggs together until light and fluffy. Mix 2 cups sugar and 4 tablespoons flour together and add to the eggs. Add 4 cups milk to the egg mixture. Add vanilla extract. Place in double boiler and cook until thick. Chill thoroughly (several hours or overnight).

MERINGUE: Beat egg whites until stiff. Add sugar a little at a time. Add cream of tartar and vanilla.

Place a layer of crushed wafers on the bottom of a 9"x13" Pyrex dish. Slice 2 bananas on top of wafers. Pour half of the custard over wafers and bananas. Place a layer of whole wafers on top of the custard, slice 2 bananas on top and add rest of the custard. Add 1 more layer of widely spaced wafers before putting on meringue. Brown meringue in preheated oven, 400 degrees. Will serve 8.
