1 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
3 c. sugar
4 unbeaten eggs
2 tsp. baking soda
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. nuts
3 c. applesauce

Combine sugar, eggs and shortening and mix well. Add all the spices and salt and mix. Add soda and mix. Add room temperature applesauce and mix. Add flour 1 cup at a time and mix. Add nuts and raisins and mix well.

Bake at 350°F for 2 hours in a large tube pan.
