APPLES BAKED IN RED WINE
4 firm baking apples
1 c. sugar
Nutmeg
2 whole cloves
1 very sm. piece cinnamon stick
2 c. red wine
1 c. water

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Core apples, but do not pierce them completely through bottoms. Peel top a little less than halfway down, leaving remaining skin intact.

Put apples, peeled halves up, in a deep baking dish that holds them close together. Fill centers of apples 1/8 of sugar. Grate a dash of nutmeg over each apple.

Add whole cloves, cinnamon stick, wine and water to dish. Add remaining sugar, coating tops generously and put the rest in wine. Bake 30-40 minutes until apples are soft.
