CHOCOLATE-CHEWY BARS 
6 oz. evaporated milk, divided
14 oz. pkg. caramels
17-18 oz. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. melted butter
1 c. chopped nut meats (pecans or walnuts)
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cook 1/3 cup evaporated milk and caramels over double boiler until mixture is smooth; set aside. Stir together remaining evaporated milk, cake mix, butter, and nut meats. Grease and flour 9x13x2 inch baking pan; spread half of dough into pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes.

Sprinkle chocolate chips on baked dough; top with melted caramel mixture. Crumble remaining mixture on top. Continue baking at 350 degrees for 14-18 minutes. Cool and cut into bars. Yield: 2 dozen bars.
