EASY WHITE BREAD | |
5 to 6 c. flour 3 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. salt 2 pkg. dry yeast 2 c. water 1/4 c. oil Grease two 8 x 4 or 4 x 5 inch loaf pans. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup. In large bowl combine 2 c. flour, sugar, salt and yeast, blend well. In a small saucepan heat oil and water until very warm. Add warm liquid to flour mixture and blend at low speed until moistened. Beat 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, stir in 2 1/2 to 3 c. flour until dough comes away from the sides of bowl. Knead dough on a floured surface in 1/2 to 1 cup of flour until dough is smooth and elastic with blisters under the surface - about 10 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover loosely with plastic and towel. Let rise in warm place until dough is doubled in size - about 1 1/2 hours. Pound down several times to remove air bubbles - divide into 2 parts. Cover 1/2 the dough with bowl. Work dough with hands for 15 minutes to remove air bubbles. Shape dough into two loaves, place in pans, cover and let rise in warm place until dough fills pans and tops of loaves are about 1 inch above pans (about 1 hour). Bake at 375°F for 45 to 55 minutes. |
