RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. butter flavor
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 oz. red food color
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt

Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs. Add remaining ingredients.

FROSTING:

3 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. butter flavor

Gradually add milk to flour and salt in pan. Cook slowly and stir until thick. Cool. Mix in separate bowl the remaining ingredients. Cream together. Spread over cake.
