JAM BARS 
1/2 lb. butter
3/4 c. sugar
3 eggs, separated
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. or more strawberry or raspberry preserves
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix butter, sugar, flour, baking powder, egg yolk, and vanilla. Press this into a 9x13 inch pan. Pat dough to fit into bottom of pan. Cover dough with preserves. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons flour lightly over preserves. Then cover with 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Put the beaten egg whites over this and cover them with 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Bake in 325 degree oven for 1 hour. Cool and cut into bars.
