HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM 
4 eggs
2 1/4 c. sugar
5 c. milk
4 c. heavy cream
4 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Add sugar gradually to beaten eggs. Continue to beat until mixture is very stiff. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour into 1/2 gallon freezer and freeze as directed on ice cream maker directions using rock salt and ice. Mix with electric ice cream maker about 25 minutes until ready to serve. Our family uses this recipe for many occasions. You may add one of the following items to very your flavors: cut up stick licorice pieces, cut up jelly beans, broken peanut brittle or other types of candy; crushed peppermint candy, etc. Add when the ice cream of partially set. If added too soon, the pieces will fall to the bottom of the ice cream can.
