APPLE SLICES 
1 c. shortening (2 sticks or butter)
3 c. flour
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, separated
6 c. peeled & sliced apples (or 3 cans pie apples, sliced)
1 1/2-2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 lb. butter
1/2 c. or so flour to be mixed with apples, etc.

Cut shortening into flour and salt. Combine milk and egg yolk and blend. Add to flour mixture. Work dough as you would a pie crust. Roll out and pat 1/2 of dough into jelly roll pan (cookie sheet, 11 x 16 x 1/2 inch).

Arrange apples on crust. Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter. Roll out other half of dough and cover the apples and seal all edges. Brush top of dough with slightly beaten egg white. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

GLAZE:

2 c. powdered sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2-3 tbsp. milk

Glaze may be put on as soon as apple slices are removed from oven.
