GRANDMA'S CASSEROLE (WEIGHT
WATCHERS)
 
2 tsp. butter or Pam
1 c. chopped onion
3/4 c. chopped green pepper
1 c. chopped celery
1 lb. ground turkey or veal
1 tsp. season salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. sugar
1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
2 c. water or 1/2 water and 1/2 tomato sauce
1 (8 oz.) can mushrooms
8 oz. uncooked wide noodles
8 oz. shredded Mozzarella cheese

Saute together until tender butter, onion, green pepper, celery add ground turkey, salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, sugar. Simmer 10 minutes then add tomatoes, tomato sauce, water and mushrooms simmer 20 minutes. Place 1/2 of the sauce and meat in 9 x 13 pan. Cover with 8 oz. noodles top with rest of sauce. Sprinkle with cheese cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serves 8. Let stand 15 to 20 minutes before serving.

We really enjoyed this casserole. I used olive oil instead of Pam. And I used Fresh mushrooms instead of canned. I also used lowfat shredded cheddar cheese instead of shredded mozarella. I used ground turkey (93/7). I also sprinkled some Mrs. Dash on the meat. I didn't use any celery. For the noodles I used Barilla Plus Farfalle (Bowtie). I will make this again but I would like to try fresh tomatoes instead of canned stewed tomatoes.
