cucumbers Pour boiling water over cukes. Leave 8 hours. Drain well. Slice long ways and pack in jars. Add a grape leaf to the top of the cukes. Solution: 3 3/4 c. vinegar 4 1/2 c. sugar 3 tbsp. salt 4 1/2 tbsp. turmeric 4 1/2 tsp. celery seed 3/4 tsp. mustard seed Heat to boil. Pour over cukes. May boil in bath, but most often if you heat your flats and rings, they will seal without boil bath. The remaining juice after all the pickles are gone is great to use in mixing potato salad, deviled eggs, etc. |
