HAND ME DOWN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
3/4 c. butter
1 3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
3/4 c. cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. water

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat 1 minute at medium speed. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Add alternately with water to creamed mixture. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool, frost with Baker's Icing or any frosting.

BAKER'S ICING:

3 tbsp. flour
1 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook flour and milk together over low heat until thick and pasty. Place in refrigerator until cool. Blend butter and Crisco into cool flour mixture at low speed. Add salt. Beat at high speed until light. Add granulated sugar and beat at high speed. Add vanilla; blend well.
