BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1/2 gallon slices green tomatoes
1/2 gallon slices cucumber
6 or 8 med. onions
2 green peppers
1 red pepper
1 hot pepper, if wanted
1/2 c. salt
2 trays ice

Put this in pan, sprinkle with salt. Add ice and cover for 3 hours. Then drain off water and add: 5 c. sugar 1 tsp. turmeric powder 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 2 tbsp. mustard seed 1 tsp. celery seed

Tie mustard seed, celery seed and cloves in cheesecloth. Place on heat and keep stirring until it comes to a boiling point, for about 10 to 15 minutes. Don't let it boil. Pack in jars, makes 8 pints.
