BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
25 cucumbers, 3-5" long
12 onions
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. mustard seed
2 tsp. turmeric
2 tsp. celery seed
1/2 c. pickling salt
2 qt. ice water

Slice cucumbers and onions. Soak in 2 quarts ice water and 1/2 cup pickling salt for 3 hours. Drain. Mix vinegar, sugar and spices. Bring to a boil. Add cucumbers and onions just to heat through. Pack in jars, cover with boiling liquid. Adjust lids. Process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes.
