3 c. cooked instant potatoes
1 lb. grated cheddar cheese
1 1/2 sticks butter
2 diced onions
1/2 box lasagna noodles

Cook noodles as directed on box. Butter 9x13 casserole with 1 stick butter. Saute onions in 1/2 stick butter. Mix onions into mashed potatoes. Arrange noodles in casserole followed by a thin layer of potatoes and cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used; ending with cheese. Cover with foil and bake 350 degrees 25 to 30 minutes.
