BROWN SODA BREAD | |
10 oz. whole wheat flour 6 oz. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda Approx. 1 1/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk or add 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar with reg. milk Sieve flour, salt and baking soda into bowl. Add whole wheat flour. make a well in center, pour in nearly all the milk. Mix to a loose dough, adding more milk if necessary. Turn onto a floured board and knead until side next to the board is smooth. Turn smooth side up, flatten out slightly and shape into a round loaf. Cut a cross on top with a floured knife. Place on a lightly floured tin. Bake in fairly hot oven (375 degrees) for about 45 minutes. |
