DATE ORANGE WALNUT BARS 
Cream 1/3 cup soft butter and 3/4 cup brown sugar. Add 1 egg, 1 tablespoons grated orange rind, 2 tablespoons orange juice. Beat in 1 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir in 1/2 cup chopped dates, and 3/4 cup chopped walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Frost with Orange Butter Frosting.

ORANGE BUTTER FROSTING:

Cream 1/4 cup soft butter, 1 teaspoon grated orange rind, 1 egg yolk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Beat well and add 2 cups powdered sugar. Mix in 2 teaspoons orange juice. Frost. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top. These freeze well.
