SPLIT PEA SOUP 
1 pkg. (12 to 14 oz.) split peas
2 qts. water
1 branch celery, chopped (including leaves)
1 lg. carrot, chopped
1 sm. onion, chopped
1 bay leaf
A dash or 2 of thyme, cayenne, salt & pepper
Bacon or ham bits if desired

Cook approximately 2 hours.
