BROWN STONE FRONT CAKE 
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1/2 c. butter or 1 c. Crisco
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda put in 1/2 c. warm water
1 c. buttermilk
3 c. plain flour (sift 6 times)
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate
1 tbsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, one at a time. Put chocolate in last. Bake 80 minutes at 300°F.

ICING:

1 c. sugar
1/2 sq. chocolate
1/2 c. Carnation milk
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Boil 5 minutes. Put walnuts or pecans in icing and pour over cake.
