3 c. + 3 tbsp. flour
2 1/4 c. sugar
1 7/8 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
9 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
3 eggs
3/8 tsp. red food color
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla and red food coloring. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Pour into 3 greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool. Frosting listed below.

FROSTING:

16 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cube butter
1 sm. can milk
2 c. sugar
10 marshmallows

Mix first 4 ingredients in bowl. Cook milk, sugar and marshmallows 6 minutes, then pour over top of the other mixture and stir well. Frost cake.
