SOFT SUGAR COOKIES 
3 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening or soft butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla or 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. thick sour cream

Add sifted flour mixture. Beat until blended, about 1 1/2 minutes. Scrape bowl while beating. Roll out on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut and sprinkle with sugar. Put on prepared cookie sheet. Bake at 425 degrees for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
