RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 cup Crisco
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red food coloring
2 1/4 cup plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 scant tsp. salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar

Cream Crisco, sugar, and eggs. Make a paste of the food coloring and cocoa. Add to mixture. Add salt, flour, buttermilk and vanilla. Mix in but do not beat, the vinegar and soda.

Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes. Frost with cream cheese frosting.
