CABBAGE CASSEROLE 
2 tsp. shortening
3 lbs. cabbage
1 1/2 lb. hamburger
1 lg. onion
1/4 c. vinegar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. tomato paste
1 c. tomato soup
1/2 c. rice
1 c. water
Salt and pepper

Chop half cabbage into bottom of large pan. In skillet melt shortening place chopped large onion into skillet with hamburger and rice, brown. Then drain. Pour over cabbage in pan. Top with other half of chopped cabbage. Mix together tomato paste, soup, water, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Pour over cabbage and bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. uncover, if desired place shredded cheddar over top. Return to oven until the cheese is melted.
