RUBY'S BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qt. sliced cucumbers (add onions if you like)
1/3 c. salt
1 or 2 pans ice cubes

Sprinkle salt and ice cubes on cucumbers. Let stand 3 hours; drain well.

5 c. vinegar
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed

Combine vinegar, sugar, turmeric and celery seed. Bring to a boil. Add drained cucumbers. Bring to a boil again. Seal in sterilized jars. Makes 8 quarts.
