GINGER SUGAR COOKIES 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. sugar
3/4 c. soft shortening
1/4 c. light molasses
1 egg

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease cookie sheets. Sift flour with baking soda, spices, salt. Set aside. At medium speed cream 1 cup sugar with shortening until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Blend in molasses and egg. At low speed beat in flour mixture until well mixed. Refrigerate 1 hour. Shape dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Roll in remaining sugar. Place 2 1/2 inches apart on cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack. Cool. Cookies will have crinkly surface. Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
